Got a call from a bloke with an Indian accent claiming my US social security number showed up in 37 fraud cases and that the FBI had warrants out in four states for me. I just replied, “Best of luck with that,” coz I’m relaxed here in my flat in the UK. Proper laugh in the middle of the day! Even with all the call blockers I’ve turned on my phone, these lot somehow still ring me up.

I received a rather peculiar call just now from this number, where the caller inquired if my Covid vaccinations were current and if I had received my vaccination card from the GP. He claimed to work for a government agency collaborating with the NHS. Given that the date is 5 March 2024, and everything Covid-related feels like ancient history, I found the whole thing quite off-kilter. To add to my unease, he then pivoted the conversation to ask if I had life insurance. When I confirmed that I did, he pressed for the name of the provider. Curious as to why he needed this information, I asked him but he simply stated he needed to update my records. While he did know my name, he couldn’t provide any further details about me, prompting me to decline his request for information. He had a pronounced Indian accent and I could tell the call originated from abroad, even though it showed up as a UK mobile number. His persistence was quite remarkable, I must say.
