Someone keeps ringing asking for Romell. I don’t know anyone by that name, it’s not me. I block the number loads of times but they keep phoning back asking for Romell. I tell them I’m not Romell and they say they’ll remove me from their list but it never happens. From what I gather, sounds like a scam to me.

Got a dodgy call from someone with a foreign accent saying they were from what I thought was the housing repairs department. I told him I actually work in housing, then he changed his story, saying he was from some independent government advice group about legal stuff. I told him again that I work at the council and hadn’t heard of any of these schemes, then he just hung up. After reading other comments, it looks like a rubbish fake compensation scam. Her Indian accent made me suspicious right away, she first said she was calling from the Council, then switched to saying she was giving advice about repairs on council homes. Got a call from a woman named 'Amanda' saying I could get compensation from the government because I supposedly live in a council or housing association place. She claimed landlords left places in a right state thanks to Covid. When I told her I don't live in either, she asked if I owned the place. I said no and she quickly said sorry and ended the call. Sounds like a total con, hope no one gets tricked into admitting they live in a council house or similar.

Then they sell your info to other firms or scammers who flood you with calls. If this happens to you, best not to pick up, just let it go to voicemail, block the number and look it up here later.

A call purporting to be from "the council" inquiring about various repairs needed at my place, supposedly owing to the disrepair caused by the lockdowns. They also mentioned something about compensations, and there was a bit about being eligible for a competition as well. Was expectin a call when this number popped up, so I answered thinkin it was the one. They only rang twice and then cut off. I gave them a ring back and an Indian woman answered with really bad, broken English. I could barely understand but it seemed like something about repairs for folks in social housing.
