3 yearsI got a message after my John Lewis credit card online payment didn’t go through, asking if I’d actually tried to make the payment. It showed me the last three purchases I made that day, including times, stores, and amounts. The message said to reply with Y if the payments were legit or N to speak to a fraud agent. Since all the transactions were legit, I sent back Y. Then they told me to try the payment again with the merchant. No money was requested, so I think it’s a genuine check.John Lewis3 yearsThis number called us pretending to be from John Lewis fraud team, warning about a supposed £1900 charge on our credit card. It sounded pretty real as they knew the last digits of our card and some recent purchases (how did they get that?!) They said they wouldn’t ask for the full card number. What threw us off was the texts they sent with codes, meant to verify the £1900 wasn’t legit, but the final message actually asked us to approve payment. That’s when we smelt something fishy and cut off the call. We then rang the real John Lewis fraud line (number found on our card) to make sure no payment went through and reported the scam. They cancelled the card straight away. If we hadn’t caught onto the wording in the last text asking for payment rather than cancelling it, this could have ended badly.
