They purport to be from a banking institution.

A chap rang me up, insisting he was from my credit card company and requested I confirm a couple of transactions. Initially, I got suckered into confirming the first one, but by the time the second verification came around, the alarm bells started ringing. I called him out, saying "you're attempting to pull a fast one on me," and just like that, he hung up without a second thought! He had a very pleasant, middle-aged voice and quite a strong regional accent - quite the smooth operator, I must say.

Received a call purporting to be from the Bank of Scotland, insisting they were a fraud prevention unit. Quite suspicious if you ask me!
