Received a dodgy text, definitely a scam.

Have a look at the blue-rated comment from 04/01/23 and maybe five posts underneath it. It's so important not to dismiss any calls claiming to be from your bank. There's no way to be totally sure if the person on the phone is legit or just con artists wanting to drain your account. The safest bet is to ring your bank back on the number shown on the card itself. These scammers have been known to fake all sorts of bank phone numbers, so you can’t trust the caller ID alone. Always better to be safe than sorry!

Just got a call from someone claiming to be from Halifax about a fraud check. Sounded legit at first, but wasn’t too sure if it was real or not. Anyone else had this happen? Seems dodgy to me.

Got a call saying it was from Halifax Bank about my credit card ending in my digits being used at Next Directory for £114.95. They said the payment got declined and told me to ring back. I’m sure if I had, they would have just taken money from my account without me knowing.

Make sure you ring your bank using the phone number printed on the back of your card before giving out any info. Banks often reach out from several different phone numbers, and scammers are known to fake these quite a bit. If you reckon the call is dodgy, definitely report it to Action Fraud as a phishing scam. There’s more info about this on this page dated 02/12.

Someone claiming to be from Bank of Scotland rang me, and they somehow already had the last four digits of my credit card and even the amount I’d just paid. Bit creepy if you ask me.

Got a text saying it was from MBNA about a £15 payment being held. It was meant for my O2 pay and go, supposedly at 04:42. The message warned that if I didn’t reply yes or no to confirm, future payments would be declined. Thing is, right before that, I got another message in my MBNA chat telling me to watch out for this fake text - probably to make it seem legit. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

Got a call supposedly from Halifax saying my online payment didn't go through, gave the exact amount and everything. They mentioned if I didn't respond, future payments would be cancelled. Thing is, the retailer actually took the payment without any problems. Still, it’s creepy how they seemed to have all those details.

I got a text from this number asking me to confirm if I’d made some transactions in Italy, but before that, I’d already received a message that looked like it was from MBNA. Strange how they followed up like that!

I got two messages recently, first one from BOS saying "You'll soon get a text from Bank Of Scotland to verify some recent transaction on your card ending in XXXX." Then, not long after, another text popped up from this number warning me, "Just so you know, you have to reply or your card payments might get blocked. Bank Of Scotland spotted a charge on your credit card ending XXXX on 22-09-2022 at 23:11:06 at GOOGLE Google Play App for £59.99. This payment didn’t go through. If it was you, text YES, if not, reply NO."

Got a text supposedly from Lloyds Bank saying I need to confirm a payment I allegedly made yesterday by replying YES or NO. Definitely wasn’t really from the bank though, but it had some bits of info about my card and my number, which made me uneasy.

Got a message claiming to be from MBNA about a weird transaction. They told me to reply or else my card would get blocked. I went straight to my MBNA account online and there was nothing suspicious. Plus, the card digits they mentioned didn’t even match mine. Best to just ignore this text.

I got a text claiming to be from MBNA, asking if I made a £1.00 payment to Amazon, saying it didn’t go through on my account. They wanted me to reply with yes or no to confirm. I tried to reply yes but the message wouldn’t send, which made me think something fishy was going on.

I recently received a rather dubious message claiming to be from Lloyds Bank. As a customer of theirs, I must admit, it was rather easy to be swayed by the deception if I'd not been vigilant. The communication urged me to verify my identity by providing my banking information under the guise of addressing some alleged fraudulent transactions on my credit card. Fortunately, I took the precaution of ringing the standard Lloyds hotline, and they assured me it was all a ruse.

Got a couple of texts earlier. First one was from BOS saying Lloyds Bank would send me an SMS to check some recent stuff on my credit card and mentioned the last four digits of the card. Then a follow-up text came through about someone trying to use my card online for a payment that was refused by the bank. They wanted me to text back YES if it was me or NO if it wasn’t. They said I didn’t have to ring the bank and texting is the fastest way to sort it out.

On the 3rd of March 2022, I got a text supposedly from Halifax Bank saying a payment from my credit card to DINKY DI INVSTMNT PL had been declined. They wanted me to reply if I was the one who tried to make the payment. I hardly ever use that card, but the day before I did use it to book some holiday lodging in Australia through Booking.com. I also found out that DINKY ....... is actually an Australian company.
