I got a call from some robotic American voice claiming a letter from HMRC had bounced back to them and threatening legal action if I didn’t press “1” straight away. It was so clearly a scam made to panic people who've no reason to doubt HMRC and would probably ring back without thinking. HMRC have made it clear loads of times they don’t reach out like this, so if you get this sort of call, it’s almost certainly a con.
