I got a message from EVRI saying I need to pay £1.45 for delivery, and it told me to go to evri-updating-delivery#com to sort it out. It warned that if I don't pay, my parcel would be sent back to the sender. Seems a bit fishy to me!

I got a text from some number saying they’re Evri and want £1.45. I’m waiting for a parcel but this just feels dodgy. Honestly, if it means my parcel gets sent back so I don’t get ripped off, then so be it.

Just got a call sayin I’d been near someone who caught the Omicron BA.5 variant. They told me to get a free test and gave me a link: uk-health-service.com. The number they rang from was 447871004641. Bit worrying, but at least the test’s free, I suppose.

Got a text out of the blue saying I'd been near someone who tested 'positive' (didn’t say for what exactly!) and a link to buy a test kit for whatever bug is going around now.

If you text 7726, all it seems to do is set off a spam alert with your network provider. It doesn't actually block the scams or help the police track down the scammers. There’s loads of info out there on how to properly report these dodgy calls and why you should complain to your MP about it. With the US cracking down on these scammers, expect even more of these calls hitting us over here soon.

Got a dodgy text about ‘COVID’ this morning, so I sent it on to 7726 like Action Fraud recommended. Apparently, loads of phone companies take part in this scheme where you can forward any sketchy texts to that number for free. They then look into where the message came from and if it’s a scammy one, they can block the sender or stop them altogether. Seems like a good way to keep these nuisance texts in check.

Got a message about Covid less than half an hour after a call from a different number, both claiming to be from the health service. Definitely a scam.

Using 7726 feels like a way to keep the police from being swamped with too many crime complaints. Honestly, your mobile network probably won't share that info with the police at all. The posts on here explain how you can report scams straight to official police fraud centres. There are multiple platforms made for this purpose, and if you want to protect yourself and others from these scams, the best thing is to flood the authorities with reports. Eventually, enough pressure like that will push the government to do something about it.

WATCH OUT! If you click on these links, you’re basically inviting a scam. There’s loads of advice in the posts below about how to report these dodgy calls and why it’s super important to do so instead of just blocking the number - blocking doesn’t really stop them. Just a heads up, tapping on one of these links could infect your phone or laptop with nasty malware. It’s best to have good security software on all your devices that not only alerts you to dodgy links but can also scan for any bad stuff already lurking on your gadgets.
