I keep getting calls on my landline at all sorts of times from numbers I don’t recognise. I never pick up if I don’t know who it is, and obviously they don’t bother leaving any voicemail. I’ve registered with the TPS ages ago but honestly, it feels like it makes no difference at all.

Just a quick update about BT blocking. This number actually left a message on my BT voicemail, the one where blocked calls get sent, and I’ve heard it a few times now. It sounded like it was in Chinese or maybe some Indian language, not sure if it was live or a recording. Since I usually block international numbers, it might have been caught by that filter rather than BT’s official blacklist.

Had similar deal as most people, so I dug around on interwobbl: The number 07866 589012 seems to be valid. According to Oftel records, any numbers beginning with 07866589 belong to Orange. Keep in mind, with number portability, if the number has switched to another network, that info isn’t public. The last update from Oftel about this range was way back in Feb 2000. So, in short, it definitely reeks of a scam or dodgy behaviour, and it looks like Orange has recycled the number recently - usually they hold off reusing numbers anywhere from 6 to 24 months depending on the provider.
