The message was questioning-albeit in a rather jumbled way-whether a Google verification code I received was accurate. Interestingly, this message popped up merely ten minutes after I got the 2FA code from Google, which allowed access to my account. This all transpired on my private mobile device, fully updated to the latest iOS, and I was browsing with DuckDuckGo’s privacy-focused browser. Here’s what the message said, word for word: “ Is ? G-*****367 do ch?d f?or?ch?in Google.” I’m not inclined to believe this is legitimate; it raises a few alarm bells for me. It certainly could be a phishing attempt aimed at snagging login credentials and illicitly accessing my account.
