This number seems genuine to me. I got a text asking to verify some card transactions by replying Y or N. What convinced me to go ahead was an earlier message from Santander, sent from the same number that usually sends my OTPs, letting me know I’d get a message from that number soon. In the end, my card got blocked and a replacement was sent out.

The number really was from Santander. I called a number I found online for Santander because we got a text about suspicious activity, not the one in the message. When I called their fraud dept, there was an automated message telling me it’s alright to reply Y to those texts. Honestly, this who-called site seems less useful lately. Loads of folks just assume any message from a company is a scam without verifying, even though scammers have gotten clever and can spoof real company numbers these days.

These folks are total scammers who seem to have some info from Santander accounts, so best to ignore them completely! I’d suggest reporting it and see if you can figure out where they got the card info from - maybe a nearby store or something. For me, it was easier because the card was only used once recently and the timing of the fake message matched up with that. The shop owners, who run a big chain, are now looking into it. Luckily, no cash was taken since I didn’t reply to their message!
