This number seems genuine to me. I got a text asking to verify some card transactions by replying Y or N. What convinced me to go ahead was an earlier message from Santander, sent from the same number that usually sends my OTPs, letting me know I’d get a message from that number soon. In the end, my card got blocked and a replacement was sent out.

Just got a text claiming to be Santander saying there was a bet placed on some gambling site, which I wasn’t expecting. Normally I wouldn’t give these much attention, but this one had the last 4 digits of my debit card right, so it made me double check. I tried calling some of the numbers they mentioned but didn’t know if I should trust them, so I searched them here. The feedback was mixed - some say it’s a scam, others disagree. To be safe, I rang Santander directly with my card details and found out the alert was actually legit.

I got a text from this number saying there was some suspicious activity on my santander account, which wasn’t true at all. The message told me to ring 08082800989 and punch in a three digit code. I just ignored the whole thing.

The number really was from Santander. I called a number I found online for Santander because we got a text about suspicious activity, not the one in the message. They verified that the message was genuine and mentioned they sometimes use a mobile number since scammers can copy Santander’s usual numbers. If you’re unsure, it’s best to check your online banking and ring the official scam hotline.

Received a text from this number on the 16th of March 2023. It was masquerading as a Santander notification regarding a supposed issue with an online transaction. The message claimed I'd be contacted again from a different number, asking for further banking information. Clearly a scam!

Got a call and a text from this number, saying there's been some kind of transaction on my debit card and to reply Y or N. The call said to ring 08082800901 and use PIN: 108. Sounds like a total scam to me! Thanks to this site for clearing that up. I can’t imagine any bank would ever contact you from a mobile number, can they?

Got a text from Santander asking me to confirm if my purchases from yesterday were legit by replying with Y or N. When I called their fraud dept, there was an automated message telling me it’s alright to reply Y to those texts. Honestly, this who-called site seems less useful lately. Loads of folks just assume any message from a company is a scam without verifying, even though scammers have gotten clever and can spoof real company numbers these days.

Absolutely dodgy characters involved here, having seemingly got hold of some Santander banking info. Whatever you do, don’t engage with them! It's wise to flag this up and see if you can pinpoint a physical location, like a nearby shop, which might have been the source of your card details being compromised. I managed to trace back my own situation since I’d only used my card once in the last month, and the timing of the scam message paired with my transaction history was quite telling. The store, which belongs to a large chain, is currently looking into the matter. Thankfully, I haven’t lost any funds as I chose not to reply to the text!
