The message was actually real, about an order I made with a clothing brand. I guess because loads of folks have had bad experiences, this number must be one shared by quite a few companies for different reasons - and some scammers might have got hold of it. But for me, it was totally genuine.

I reckon the message was probably just a test to check if it actually gets through, and if it’s looked at, so they can confirm the number’s legit and in use. Apart from that, who knows if they’re running some sort of spyware or anything - sounds like something that’d need a more tech savvy person to figure out. I’d be pretty wary about this number myself; I’ve gone ahead and blocked it since the person texting me already had my full name and birthdate.

Got a message saying: 'Your Prescription is Ready to Collect at St. Helens Hospital Pharmacy Dispensary (01744-646068). PLEASE PICK UP WITHIN 7 DAYS.' The number matched the pharmacy, and they confirmed they had a prescription from the eye clinic. But when I called the clinic directly, they said they’d never sent anything and told me to just ignore it. It’s really confusing, especially since they had my name and date of birth. Even though the call connected me to the pharmacy and then onto the clinic, it feels dodgy. I’m definitely blocking this number now.

This number sent me two dodgy texts about tax refunds - once back in September 2017 and again just recently, January 2019. How is it that a scammy phone number can keep going on for so long? Makes you wonder if the regulators are just useless or if it’s a lost cause since fraudsters just move onto a different number. Honestly, best to just block and forget these messages. HMRC will never contact you like that; they always send official letters through the post.

Said they were from HSBC, saying my account had some security locks put on it. Asked me to tap a link. Definitely not HSBC, cause their real name wouldn’t just be a weird number. Didn’t touch the link at all - obvious scam. Blocked the number and got rid of the message. DO NOT CLICK THAT LINK!

Got a dodgy text pretending to be from HSBC about some account restrictions. It’s a pretty obvious phishing scam trying to trick you. Don’t click any links in it! Just forward the entire message to ‘7726’ along with the sender’s number. Stay safe!
