I've had a similar experience... could it be a scam?

I got a message on my phone telling me to contact a different number, which turned out to be associated with Talktalk. A few hours later, I decided to give them a call from my landline since I’d been having some issues before. However, when I spoke to them, they didn’t have any record of that email. To make matters stranger, when I looked at my phone again, that message had vanished completely. Sounds suspicious, doesn't it? Is it the real deal or just another scam?
