Not long ago, I received a call that claimed to be from BT, reassuring me that as a valued customer, I could benefit from reduced line rental charges and complimentary calls during the night and at weekends. However, the chap on the other end didn't seem particularly clued up about our existing contract details, even though he managed to get our postcode right. Then, out of the blue, he requested our bank account number for various reasons. We promptly ended the conversation. It struck us as odd since genuine BT would never ask for such sensitive information over the phone. Strangely enough, the same number rang back twice within just a few minutes, but we chose to ignore it.

I received a call claiming that, as a valued BT customer, I could benefit from reduced line rental rates and complimentary calls during evenings and weekends. The chap on the other end appeared rather clueless about our current contract details, and to top it off, he had our postcode all wrong! He then requested our bank account number to initiate the changes. Naturally, we hung up. Since I pay via direct debit, the genuine BT wouldn't need to ask for such sensitive information. Curiously, the same number attempted to reach us again twice in mere seconds, but we chose not to answer this time around.
