On the 1st of February 2022, I received a rather suspicious call on my mobile. It was a pre-recorded message that followed an awkward pause after I greeted it with a 'hello'. After repeating myself, I sensed something was off due to yet another brief silence. The message purported to be from Amazon, claiming there was an issue with an order I supposedly made for £79.99. Now, here's the kicker-I haven't ordered anything from Amazon recently, and I've certainly never hit that particular price point, even when factoring in shipping and VAT. They prompted me to input a number to supposedly connect with an Amazon Customer Service representative. Let me clarify: this is categorically not how Amazon communicates with its customers. Real messages come through the Amazon platform and can only be accessed after logging into the verified account using the correct credentials. I’m convinced this call is a scam. I strongly advise others not to engage with the options presented or proceed if the call eventually connects you to someone. Stay vigilant!
