Today, I got a call from this number claiming my Amazon account was hacked and someone was buying stuff using it. I asked what they’d done this time to use my account. I thanked her for letting me know and asked what steps I should take next. I told the caller I’m a detective and that I work with a colleague in the fraud squad at the local police, and that I’d report the scammer and give him the details along with my Amazon info. The woman on the other end, who spoke with an Indian accent, got really flustered and hung up abruptly. Merry Christmas, Shane McCarthy, top detective!
