A woman called up asking if she’d reached me, saying she was from the national crime federation and they had some sort of campaign going on nearby. I chuckled and said, ‘Really?’ She went quiet for a moment, then just said ‘yeah’. I told her to remove me from their contacts and then she just cut me off. Not very convincing at all, more annoying than anything sketchy.

Got a phone call supposedly about an advert that would confirm I’m a trusted trader in some sort of local crime watch magazine. I questioned how paying £100 for an advert actually shows I’m not a dodgy dealer, considering there seemed to be zero background checks. Right after I asked that, the lady just ended the call. I got a call from a bloke with a thick south-east England accent who said he was with the crime prevention unit, supposedly working alongside the local police (he did say the right police force but messed up my company name) and also mentioned something about the Royal Mail or maybe the Post Office. He said they were about to produce 100,000 leaflets to be dropped off to nearby houses and businesses and asked if I wanted to sponsor some of the content. It sounded kinda believable but I said no thanks. Having a look at the comments here, this definitely feels like a well-made scam!

When i picked up i said my business name, this bloke with a male voice said something about going after dodgy traders and tried to pitch me a Checkatrade deal. But as soon as i asked a few more questions, he suddenly said bye and ended the call.

I picked up and gave the company name straight away. The bloke on the other end repeated it back to me, so I said yes, how can I help? Then, out of nowhere, the call just dropped. I wouldn’t be surprised if I start getting loads of calls soon from people who now know our company name, trying to push things on me.

A guy with what sounded like a UK accent called me claiming he was from some Welsh crime association or something like that. He mentioned my business had been up and running for a while and said the call was about dodgy trades. Just as I was expecting them to give more details, the call dropped. Not sure what they were trying to pull but I had a bad feeling it was some kind of scam in the making.
