I was working and got a message saying “Hi mum”, so I freaked out a bit and replied like it was my daughter, even though the way it was worded didn’t really seem like her. I was pretty distracted at the time. It only hit me it was a scam when they started asking for money. Some of the things written didn’t seem right for my daughter’s style, but I was so caught up with work that I didn’t notice straight away.

Was at work when I got a text saying 'hi mum' and it caught me off guard. I answered straight away thinking it was my daughter even though the way it was written didn’t really sound like her usual style. It was only when they asked for money that I started to suspect something was wrong. A bunch of stuff in the messages seemed odd but I was too distracted to notice till then. Definitely felt a bit panicked and almost fell for it.

Got a text just now at 1:11 pm from +447840569991 saying, "Hey Mum, I’m messaging you from a mate’s phone. I broke mine and theirs is about to die. Can you WhatsApp my new number: +447933644818 please x" Err, when on earth did I turn into a mum?
