The next message said she’d switched to O2 because it was a good deal after getting a new phone. Thinking it was legit, I saved the number in my contacts. The following day, I received a message asking if “she” could borrow £950 urgently to buy a new laptop, with a request for bank details so it could be transferred immediately. I replied saying it was a bad idea, she never has much cash anyway, and suggested buying a Windows laptop cheaper from Amazon instead. Then today, 30th September 2023, my daughter rang me from her old number, completely unaware of what had happened. Oddly, when I checked my phone, the number and all messages from that contact had vanished, even from my contacts list.
