Got a call supposedly to give me a payment code I’d apparently asked for. The message just sounded robotic, like one of those auto-generated recordings, not a real person speaking. It said something like, “To finalise your payment of £1199 to Argos Ltd, enter the verification code 018874 on your payment confirmation page. If you didn’t make this payment, press one to reach Barclays secur...” Thing is, I never bought anything from Argos and the call cut off halfway through the security bit. Definitely felt dodgy.
