This number has been persistently ringing my mobile, but I’ve always hung up. However, I accidentally picked up the call today. The woman on the other end had a distinct Liverpool accent and claimed to be representing a health and wellness company based in Yorkshire that’s branching out across the North West. She wanted to ask me a few questions about my habits, like whether I drink enough water or take long walks. She mentioned that because I was cooperative, I could potentially receive a gift. It all felt eerily familiar, as several years ago, I encountered a similar pitch while visiting the North West. Back then, a company was trying to sell Kirby vacuum cleaners from a shop in the outskirts of Liverpool, and the ‘gift’ was a complimentary carpet cleaning service, which was merely a ruse to get you to buy an overpriced vacuum-£2500 a decade ago! Apparently, they had some success with that. When I told her I now reside in the south, she seemed taken aback and quoted my old address in the North West, suggesting I didn’t meet their criteria anymore. So, I guess I’ll never find out what the so-called prize was. Her tone and mannerisms were strikingly reminiscent of that previous call. I’ve heard Kirby has warned folks not to engage with that particular Liverpool shop, which might be worth noting if this is indeed a Kirby-related call.
