My missus replied to what looked like a Boots pharmacy deal, but after digging a bit deeper it seemed like a dodgy scam. We acted fast - blocked her cards and moved the cash out her current account. Then she got a few calls from ‘number withheld’ before a WhatsApp video call popped up. The caller claimed to be from Santander’s fraud team and tried to persuade us to ‘approve cancelling’ a direct debit that was supposedly being attempted. After a long chat that nearly turned into an argument, I ended the call. Planning to swing by our local branch in the morning to sort it out.
