The person on the other end initially spoke to me in Spanish, so I replied in my limited Spanish. After a bit, he switched over to English. He claimed to be calling from Microsoft in Washington, USA, and said they'd detected several viruses on my PC that were hidden. He wanted to guide me through a process to reveal and remove these viruses. The number showing on my phone was +44, which is the UK’s code. He asked for a code supposedly given when I bought my computer, but I told him I'd need to find it and ring him back. He wasn’t happy with that and said it was a one-off call only.
