I received a suspicious call claiming they needed my PAYE details, but they couldn't provide any form of documentation or even an email address. Definitely felt like a scam to me!

[EDITED] popped into our workplace, asserting they were from HMRC and we had an outstanding PAYE balance. The amount they mentioned didn’t tally with our records at all. Strangely, they insisted on getting into my computer and accessing my bank details to settle the supposed debt instantly. Luckily, my daughter’s dog was here and wouldn’t allow them entry. They scribbled down the aforementioned phone number and provided an account for the payment, instructing me to call them once the transfer was completed, or they’d return this week. I'm rather curious to see if they do come back! :)

Rather than receiving a phone call, I had an unexpected visit from this gentleman, who I must admit, caught me off guard. In my naivety, I mistakenly confirmed the identity of the individual he was inquiring about. To my dismay, he was quite brusque and shared an array of sensitive facts that were not just incorrect, but also quite alarming, all without even requesting any form of identification. Honestly, I could have been anyone! I firmly informed him that I wasn't inclined to discuss anything further and that I’d prefer to contact HMRC directly myself.

I'm beginning to think that this fraudster is collecting HMRC correspondence from the postboxes located at 1/2 Venture Road, Southampton Science Park. It seems they might be employing the details found in those letters to try and deceive local businesses. Quite concerning, really!

I’ve had a right dodgy call from someone with an Irish lilt, purporting to be from HMRC. They were trying to rope me into setting up a direct debit, which instantly set off alarm bells!

I just received a letter shoved through my letterbox, claiming to be from HMRC, and it referenced this mobile number. It was an outrageous demand for over £69,000 in VAT! The letter was printed on glossy photocopier paper, and the HMRC logo looked terribly pixelated. It ominously mentioned they would return to compile items for an auction.

I can confirm what was mentioned earlier-the call I received was definitely from a scam artist. They claimed that I had an outstanding PAYE tax or some other tax liability.
