I usually don’t pick up calls from unknown numbers, but this one kept ringing me several times daily over the past week. I finally answered, but as I didn’t start the conversation, they just hung up. Looked it up here and turns out it’s a scam. Got another call this morning from a different number, 02827827654, but it was the same annoying kind of call. It was an Indian guy who seemed to know all my info - name, address, postcode, even that I pay by direct debit. I ended the call quickly and checked the number here, but it said there was no info on it and the location was unknown.

The number showed up as International on my caller ID, so I didn’t pick up and ended the call once the answerphone started. After seeing what others said, I’m planning to report it to the ICO.

Lately, I’ve been getting calls from three different numbers, 07817616331 and 02827827008 have called loads over the past week, all just annoying nuisance calls. Today, a third number popped up, 02827827654, and all the voices sound Indian. I’ve had three calls this morning alone. On the second call, I told the guy straight up he was trying to scam me, but he kept denying it even after I said I checked the number. I told him to stop calling, but about 40 minutes later the same number appeared again, although it was a different person this time.

Got a call just before we could pick up on early Bank Holiday Monday. The number showed as this mobile and no one here knew it, so we called back. Got a voicemail from a guy called James, seemed quite helpful but annoyed; he said his number’s been illegally taken over and is being used for scam calls. The police are aware. Definitely don’t answer or share any info. Just looked through other comments too - it’s really worrying that scammers from abroad can hide behind what look like UK mobile numbers.

Hey, I’m James, the legit owner of this number. I’ve gotten more than 5000 calls and texts cos of this mix-up. The police told me to just change my number, which I’ve had for 17 years now. I honestly don’t get why this keeps happening. I left a voicemail to explain stuff and tried replying to texts, but with so many, I just can’t keep up. I’m gonna change my number tomorrow. Honestly, you should just block this one.

That’s really annoying, James, sorry you’re dealing with all that. If I call you back on 1471, am I ringing your mobile or is that like an international code? I chatted with BT and they told me anyone getting these kinds of calls should use their free Call Protect 1571 service to block the numbers, might be worth a shot.

This number showed up on my phone but didn’t get through cause I use call guardian. They’re supposed to hit the hash key and say their name right away, but they didn’t do that so no connection.
