I called the number on the back of my debit card and asked RBS about the person who contacted me. They gave me the agent’s name, email and phone number, and said they’re a customer care specialist who deals with financial matters.

They told me that RBS never ring you on a mobile, it’s always from an 0800 number only.

I got a call saying it was from the Royal Bank of Scotland, offering to go over my banking details. The woman on the line mentioned I could ring the number on the back of my debit card if I wanted to make sure it wasn’t a scam. I ended the call, phoned the number on my card, and spoke to a customer service rep from RBS. After that, I confidently called them back and had my banking reviewed - in the end, I actually saved some money.
