They mentioned they would transfer the funds directly to my bank account before the item was dispatched, and that I could hand it over once I confirmed receipt of the funds. Then, out of the blue, they sent what appeared to be a receipt from Gumtree’s payment service, complete with the last four digits of their card (1284). They asked me to verify the address and payment details and intriguingly sent a link to click on: HTTPS://gumtree.send-z.cod/76792163735. Alarm bells went off when the link failed to open and I stumbled upon some advice on Gumtree about avoiding dodgy links. I have to admit, I felt a bit foolish for not being more cautious, especially since I'd only dealt with cash on delivery before.
