I picked up the phone and it was a recorded message about some Visa debt help, claiming there was a £... purchase made on my Amazon account. It told me to press 1 to speak with someone. They called me multiple times throughout the day. Since my card and bank have nothing to do with Visa, I was sure it was a scam.

I’ve put this number on my blocked list since it’s called me at least 30 times already. Ridiculous thing keeps ringing even after being blocked!

Not all scams involving debt collectors are about getting you to pay up. A lot of them just want your personal details to use for identity theft or other dodgy stuff. When companies put debt collectors on the case, they usually give them some of your info like your name, address, birthday, account details and sometimes even bits of your social security number. So, if some ‘collector’ rings and starts asking for stuff like that, be really careful. It’s a huge red flag.

Got a call on my mobile, which I barely ever use and only keep for emergencies. Never gave the number to anyone, not even my mates know it. I only noticed the call when I switched the phone on to see the battery level - no voicemail or anything. Really puzzled where they got the number from.

Got a call out of the blue about some debt service stuff. Definitely one of those annoying sales calls.

Got a bunch of calls lately from dodgy people pretending to be from some debt help agency - don’t need their so-called service at all. Seems like ever since that PPI mess ended, these annoying calls have really picked up. Just a right pain in the arse.
