Someone called saying her name was Emma and wanted some contacts because she'd lost them when she changed her phone. The numbers I shared all got engaged, and the caller said she was Julie in hospital. Thankfully, I’m actually Julie, and since the numbers I gave were family, I knew she wasn’t really in hospital. She also tried asking for a phone top-up. Then, I got a message from another number, 07858134512.

This lady called herself Emma but wouldn't tell me much else. She said she got a new phone and had lost every contact, asking if I'd send her all mine. Sounds like a scam to me, so I didn't share a single thing.

I got a message from someone claiming to be Emma from work, but she said she had a new phone number. She asked if I could send her the contact info for the rest of the team, which I did, thinking it was really her. Since then, all those contacts have been receiving texts from a different number pretending to be Emma, saying she's in hospital after a fall and asking for help to top up her phone credit. It’s a bit worrying - has anyone else had this happen?

Got a call from someone saying their name was Emma, using a different number than before. When I asked what company they were from, they just said "ours" and then stopped saying anything else. I looked up the number afterwards and saw this site with lots of people saying the same kind of thing. What freaked me out was they actually used my name. I’m with Three, and this feels like some kind of phishing scam to me.

Somebody said their name was Emma. When I asked for more details, they told me they were Emma from work. I don’t actually work with anyone called Emma, but I didn’t want to make a fuss so I went along with it. They said they’d lost contact details for all the people we both know, but somehow they still managed to have my number. Weird, right?
