Got a call from 07786 202181 with some "mass notification test" message. Thought it was legit at first, but looking it up here makes me think it's probably a scam. Good thing I googled it before doing anything!

On the 25th of September 2025, at about half past ten in the morning, my London landline got a ring from 07786 202181. They claimed there was a text message waiting for me from some number I couldn’t catch in time. They told me to press 1 to hear the message, but it all seemed a bit dodgy, so I just ended the call.

I received about 81 texts from 077862021 supposedly from SP Energy Services, but sent through Vodafone - why would Vodafone be getting involved? I’m not sure if it’s spam or legit, really can’t tell. The messages say different things all the time! Could be genuine, or just a scam? I’m leaning towards spam, seems dodgy having Vodafone sending stuff for some other company. Feels quite sketchy to me! But then again, maybe they’re just trying to be helpful. Funny how nowadays we tend to jump straight to mistrusting things, isn’t it?

Got a few texts from the firm that sort of keeps the electricity running round here in my area of the UK. Bit baffling if you don’t know who they are, ‘cause they never actually say! The link leads to a PDF flyer on SP Energy’s official site, if you wanna check it out.

Loads of folks still jumping to label this as "dangerous" without even looking at the info that’s been shared. SP Energy Networks actually confirmed on their Twitter it’s legit. Plus, just a heads up - it doesn’t matter if you’re with Scottish Power or not for your energy provider. Who you pay doesn’t change anything because SP Energy Networks are responsible for the actual power grid for everyone in southern Scotland, North Wales and areas like Merseyside and Cheshire, no matter the company you get your energy from.

This isn’t a scam or phishing attempt. They were just informing me about help for people who might need extra support during power outages and similar situations. It applies to everyone in the region where SP Energy Networks handle the electricity, no matter who provides your energy.

If you’re claiming this is a scam just because you’re "not part of that company," you might be mixing up your energy provider (like British Gas, Octopus, Bulb, or E.on) with the company that actually looks after the power lines where you live (such as Western Power, SP Energy Networks, or Northern Powergrid). If you’re unsure who SP Energy Networks are, try googling their name or look up “distribution network operator” for a better idea of what they do.

Got a random text which seemed a bit off-topic at first, but it wasn’t one of those dodgy scam messages. Turns out it was from the local electricity provider giving a link to their site where you can sign up as a vulnerable customer or get other help. Pretty useful info actually!

I received a message purporting to be from SP Energy Network, complete with a PDF attachment. Don’t be deceived; this is clearly a sophisticated scam. They've spoofed a number and are bombarding folks with these messages, hoping to ensnare someone who might carelessly open the PDF. Avoid clicking on any links or files sent via text. Doing so could potentially grant them access to your device, allowing them to pilfer your personal details like bank credentials, contacts, and passwords. After reaching out to SP Energy directly, they assured me they’re not sending out such texts and are already on top of this scam. They’ll be tackling the issue from their side. Please report it, block the number, and delete the message.

Got a message from SP Energy Networks, they look after the electricity grid in some areas on behalf of different energy providers. It's not a dodgy call or text - they don’t ask for any personal info or try to trick you with malware links. The only thing they want you to do is click through to their legit website. People saying "I’m not with Scottish Power" are missing the point. If you’re in south Scotland, parts of north or mid Wales, or areas like Merseyside and Cheshire, SP Energy is the company managing your local electricity lines, no matter which firm you get your bills from.

Definitely not a scam, but it comes off a bit like spam. The link actually goes to the official SP Energy site - they handle the electricity grid in some areas of Scotland, Wales and England. (They’re different from the company you pay your bills to, so their name might not ring a bell.)

Anyone know who this number belongs to? I just got a message similar to what others described. It mentioned something about the importance of your role in helping keep people in touch and informed during Covid-19. They also said that because you’re a key worker, schools will stay open for kids, according to the Department of Education. Apparently, the councils and schools are still sorting out the details, so they advised getting in touch with your local school or council on Monday to find out what’s happening. Bit confusing, not sure if it’s legit or not.

Got a text sayin' this Siren, how important your job is at keeping people linked up and in the loop - especially as part of the covid-19 response. Since you're a key worker, the Department for Education said schools will stay open for your kids.
