10 yearsI’ve had a few calls from this number recently. The chap on the line didn’t seem to recognise me at all and then started probing for a name of my business. Oddly, he got quite chatty after that. He was rambling on about this group called fffc.org.uk, attempting to hawk some advertising space in a magazine for business cards or beer mats, all in the name of raising funds for children’s cancer. He mentioned he was on the lookout for local builders, doctors, and the like to feature. He kept pressing me for an address to send an invoice to, claiming that my company could review my website and logo for a mock-up ad in their magazine. Supposedly, the cash would benefit a charitable cause. While he was speaking, I quickly googled the organisation’s name along with the word scam and found a treasure trove of warnings about it, although the phone number differed. I told him to get in touch later. He seemed rather pushy about getting an address instead of other details, insisting it was some legal requirement to send a physical invoice! All in all, too many red flags were waving for my comfort.
