Lately ive been getting lots of weird calls and messages from all sorts of places, even some that looked real. On Sunday morning, I got a text about 3 transactions supposedly made. Two were from parking payments (Ring Go) over the weekend, which are actually mine, but then there was one from Netflix. The message asked me to reply with Y or N.

I just paid online and the seller said it went through, but then I got a message from this number saying the payment was declined.

Got a text about some recent transactions, some were legit, but it felt odd since my bank’s never sent messages like that before. So, I quickly looked up the number here and saw others had said it was dodgy. I ended up blocking the number and reported it as a scam to my provider!

Then I rang NatWest myself and they confirmed they had indeed tried to contact me like that, and that it’s normal for them to use a mobile number. Feels safe enough to me now. Just a heads up - never ever give out another phone number along with a one-time code.

I called NatWest using the number printed on the back of my card after I got a message saying they’d been in touch. They confirmed it was them but couldn’t explain why they blocked three payments. One was for a subscription I pay every month, another was a usual bill, and the last was insurance. All quite pricey transactions. I reckon the text was genuine but it’s definitely safer to just phone your bank yourself.

The message looks like it’s from the bank, so most people don’t get suspicious straight away. It’s a trick on your mind. You think it’s legit, so you don’t even question why they then ring you on some dodgy, unregistered mobile number they somehow got. These scammers are getting really sneaky now. WATCH OUT! THIS NUMBER IS DEFINITELY A SCAM!! They send messages pretending to be your bank, which tricks people into trusting them straight away. People don’t think twice when they see it’s “from the bank.” It’s all psychological - if you reckon it’s really your bank, you won’t ask why they’d call you from a random unrecognised mobile. These scammers are getting cleverer by the day, using sneaky mind games and complicated tactics to mess with how we usually think, just to steal your cash. Stay sharp!
