Got a missed call, rang back and an automated voice said “all operators are currently busy, please stay on the line... you’re number 3 in the queue.” I waited 10 mins and the queue went 3, 2, 1 about three times, just keeps cycling. Definitely going to put this number on my block list now. Pro tip - always keep your number private when phoning strange numbers like this.

I'm based in England and my phone shows this as a Guernsey number. I received three missed calls at the same time I tried to ask eBay to log me in without my password, so they could send me a verification code by text. Every attempt gave me an error message saying 'There seems to be a problem. Please try later'. After refreshing the app and trying once more, I finally got the code. Seems to me like those missed calls were some sort of automated hack to access my eBay account?

I tried to confirm my Steam phone number, the code went through but this number looks kinda dodgy. Better change your account passwords and block that number just to be safe!

If you get verification codes out of the blue and you didn’t just ask for one, it’s probably someone else putting in the wrong number - so just ignore and delete it. But if you’re signing into something and you say yes to a code being sent, then getting a text from this number (or a different one) is most likely that code you requested.

so i got a call from someone claiming to be blizzard, saying my account was locked? but the strange bit is i only just created the account, and this number texted me a verification code. maybe this number's part of some big system, like owned by one company but rented out to others? like, company XXX owns the number, blizzard uses it to send verification codes, then XXX tells another firm YYY something like "hey, they got a blizzard account", then YYY pays XXX and sends out a dodgy link? feels fishy to me.

Was changing my email password when I saw the words “Secure account later” lightly stamped across the “Continue” button. I got suspicious and looked into who’d sent the password reset details - turns out it came from this very number! Quite dodgy if you ask me.

This number is actually tied to eBay’s two-factor authentication. If you keep receiving messages from it but haven’t tried logging in yourself, it doesn't mean it's a scammer calling - instead, someone might be attempting to get into your account. That number is just alerting you and sending a one-time code. If you didn’t initiate any login, just ignore the message and make sure to update your password quickly, as someone might be trying to break in.
