Right after I posted my ad on Gumtree, I got a WhatsApp from this number within a couple of minutes asking for my PayPal email and where they could collect the item. When I asked where they were based, they said Aberdeen. I mentioned that sending it all the way there would be pricey with courier fees and probably make the whole thing not worth it. Classic scam, nothing else!

This number is definitely dodgy, I wouldn’t trust it for a second! I replied to a Gumtree listing for some French doors and got a call from a bloke with a Scottish lilt. He said he’d send a courier the very next day and asked for my PayPal info - don’t give them anything, just stay well clear in my opinion.

I put up a double buggy on Gumtree, and this lady got in touch saying she had a disability but would arrange a local courier for pickup. She asked me for my email to transfer the payment. After chatting a bit, I got a weird feeling about it. Looked up her number and saw she’s scammed loads of others. When I told her I wasn’t happy to continue, she just blocked me.

Like others have said, I got a call from someone claiming to be disabled in Aberdeen who wanted to buy some furniture and send a courier down to Southwest England. All they asked for was my PayPal info. It sounded fishy to me. I checked the number online, saw loads of warnings about it, and decided to block it straight away. Seemed really dodgy to risk anything with it.

Somebody called saying they wanted to buy an umbrella system from me, claiming they'd paid me in full via PayPal. Then they said I needed to buy a £100 Argos gift card to cover the courier fees, saying they’d put an extra £100 in PayPal to cover it and I’d get the money back once I sent them the gift card info. Like I’m that gullible! All their messages were through WhatsApp as well.

I put up a Gumtree ad selling a mobility scooter, and almost straight away got a WhatsApp message asking if it was still for sale. When I said yes, they said they couldn’t pick it up because of a disability, but would pay through PayPal and send their own delivery people. I’m also trying to sell stuff on Gumtree and I’ve encountered something weird. They responded super fast to my listing but refused to chat or even come check the item before buying. Something similar happened to me with this guy, he pretended to be disabled and tried to swindle me out of my Loubittons I was selling. Luckily, I came across this website and spotted the scam when he told me to check my emails and do what they said. That’s when it hit me he was trying to trick me.
