I got a call from a man who sounded Indian, claiming he was calling on behalf of Amazon. He mentioned that there were two suspicious purchases linked to my card - one was a £300 gift card and the other an iPhone. He said these had taken place in Manchester, which is funny because I don’t live anywhere near there. I grilled him with questions like “Which card did they supposedly use?” and “What address did they say for these orders?” plus, “Why’s Amazon ringing from a mobile number, that starts with 07?” None of his answers really added up, but he seemed legitimately worried I’d been hacked - especially after I told him I often give my card info out to anyone who asks. I kept the chat going for ages, since I had nothing better to do. Eventually, he hung up on me saying “Why the hell do you ask so many dumb questions? You’re a muppet.” I was shocked that Amazon staff would be so rude!
