The phone number they've asked me to ring is actually run by con artists. Best to just block it. From this experience, I've realised it's safer not to reply to any texts about codes linked to transactions I don't know about. Instead, it's smarter to get in touch with my bank straight away, but only after confirming the number with this useful site first.

I got a text from this number saying it was NatWest, giving a code to pay Argos. I don't have an account with NatWest and I haven't bought anything from Argos. The message said if it wasn’t me, ring 03302204400, which I’m gonna do now to sort it out.
