I got a call from someone claiming to be with Amazon, asking if I wanted to go ahead with a £499 phone purchase. I told them I hadn’t made any order like that. Then they sent me a text with a 6-digit “Cancellation Code” and wanted me to say it out loud. When I wouldn’t, they said I couldn’t cancel the order without giving the code. I told them to ring me back in an hour, and they said they would. Later, I looked up Amazon’s official advice and saw they never make calls like that.
