Someone rang me pretending to be from HMRE, but I wasn’t convinced it was genuine.

Just to clear things up, hmre would never ring you or send texts from an 02 mobile number, or any other UK mobile for that matter. They also wouldn’t be calling you from a UK landline unless you’d called them first. So, if you’re getting a random call out of nowhere claiming to be hmre, it’s defo not them.

Got a text recently from someone pretending to be HMRC saying I was owed a tax refund. The link they sent was dodgy, as HMRC never sends texts like that. I'm retired and not working, so I knew right away it was a scam. I've reported it to the real HMRC team. Just watch out for these messages - if you click on their links, you could end up losing your money!
