8 yearsJust got a call from a bloke with a Middle Eastern accent. He’d tried ringing me yesterday, but I ignored it since I was at work. Today I picked up because it showed a UK mobile number. He claimed I had an old PPI payout of about £1800 waiting, from a few years back. Oddly, he even knew my home phone number and postcode. Then he asked me for my bank details and sort code. I told him I wasn’t about to give personal info to some random stranger. He tried to convince me it wasn’t like handing over credit card info, but I stuck to my guns and refused. He just hung up on me immediately.UK8 yearsGot a call from someone saying they were with the UK’s National Tax Office, or maybe HMRC, claiming I'd won a free prize. The moment they mentioned 'free' and 'Government' together, I knew straight away it was dodgy.National Tax OfficeUKHMRCGovernment8 yearsI picked up since it looked like a regular UK mobile and they asked for me by name with an accent that sounded Indian or Pakistani. When I asked who was calling, the guy said he was "Steve Rogers" ?? Like seriously? They must take us for mugs! In case anyone's lost, Steve Rogers is the name of the Captain America character from Marvel films. I just cracked up and ended the call straight away, then blocked the number so they can't ring again.UKSteve RogersAmerica8 yearsGot two calls from this number but I usually don't pick up if I don't know who's calling. Tried ringing it back but just got the voicemail. I've blocked the number now.8 yearsI picked up after a little wait and they just cut the call straight away. Weird.8 yearsI keep getting these annoying calls all the time and had to block the number eventually. The most recent one said I was owed some money from the HMRC but oddly said “tax office” instead, and that I should expect a letter in about 8 days. I just fibbed and told them I worked for the tax office, then ended the call super fast 😃HMRC8 yearsThey just keep ringing my phone and when I tell them to quit calling, threatening to report them, they quickly hang up. It's odd how they never bother to leave any voicemail messages and always use different mobiles instead of a proper office line. So annoying!8 yearsWhen I pick up calls from people with accents like from India or Pakistan, they often stay silent, probably trying to keep me on the line just long enough to mess with my phone. They’re hoping maybe you’ve got something like PayPal or a banking app open when you answer. Luckily, most times they don’t actually get access to your device since we’re so geographically distant. I actually heard from someone who worked in a London call centre where about 150 folks were dialing numbers taken from hacked databases and email leaks. It’s pretty scary how organised they are!PakistanIndiaPayPalLondon8 yearsThis number has called me about four times yesterday and early today, claiming I owe money on some unsecured loans due soon. I don’t have any loans like that, so I told him to stop ringing me. After that, I just blocked the number. Looks like this guy is ringing lots of people!8 yearsSounds like a scam call to me.8 yearsGot a call from someone claiming to be with a credit investigation firm. He wanted to know if I had an unsecured loan. This is the third time he’s phoned, and from his accent, I reckon he’s probably Indian. Every time he calls, he comes up with a new excuse - one time it was about PPI, another about credit card debt. I just let him go on for a bit, told him no, and then ended the call.8 yearsGot a couple of calls from this number today. The first one was about life insurance but the person’s English was really hard to follow, so I just ended the call. Then about three hours later, they called again, I said hello and the person said something I couldn’t make out before hanging up. Definitely blocking this number now.8 yearsI tried calling back but no one picked up, although they did leave a message on my voicemail.8 yearsGot a call about ppi and they wanted my bank details to send payment. I said just send me a cheque instead. Then they asked which bank i use and when i gave a name they said i had the wrong one. So i ended the call and decided to look up the number. They rang me again shortly after, so i told them i’d checked and the number was flagged as a scam. They just admitted it and immediately hung up. That was the end of it!!8 yearsSeems like today’s just not my day, already had four calls I didn’t ask for!Blimey8 yearsThey rung me up two times already, just heavy breathing on the line. Left a message on my answerphone before as well. When I tried to call back, it went straight to voicemail.8 yearsTotal phishing ripoff!8 yearsSomebody with really poor English called asking if I had a bank account to put £2155.00 in for an accident or something. I said I didn’t have one and asked them to just send a cheque instead. They got pretty pushy and started arguing, so I just hung up on them in the end.8 yearsGot a call from an unfamiliar number so I picked up, but the person on the line had such poor English I couldn’t make out what they wanted. They seemed to be asking for some credit info, maybe 22297777 or something like that. Felt sketchy so I just ended the call and blocked that number. Sounds like a scam or phishing attempt to me.8 yearsI got a call from this Indian bloke who somehow already knew my surname. After that, I just ended the call.
