Got a txt from this number pretending to be some NHS warning about being near someone with the omicron strain, telling me to get a test kit ordered. Don’t even think about clicking any links from it! I looked up the number online and loads of people say it’s spam. Watch out for these fake alerts! Really hope these scammers get caught soon.

Total scam! Got a message saying “NHS Alerts: You’ve been near someone with the Omicron variant. Please get a test kit here: https://nhs.uk-pcr-test-kit.com/nhs” The site looked legit at first but then it said you gotta pay 99p for postage! NHS always provides free test kits, whether PCR or rapid, and they never charge for postage. They would never ask for your bank info either! So be careful and don’t fall for this trick.

I received a dodgy message masquerading as an NHS Alert, claiming I’d been in proximity to someone infected with Omicron and urging me to request a PCR testing kit. They insist the kit is gratis, but there’s a sneaky £0.99 charge for delivery. Quite odd, since the NHS and GOV.UK have wrapped up the Track and Trace initiative and free testing kits aren’t on offer anymore. Please, be cautious and don’t share any personal details with these scammers.

Beware of scams! If you get any dodgy calls or texts, make sure to report them straight away on the police fraud website. Just search ‘action fraud’ and head over to ‘police.uk’. Find the ‘report phishing attempt’ section and carefully read through everything before submitting the details. Be sure to add any links or website info you have. You don’t need to register, and they won’t ask for your personal details unless you’ve actually lost money. The only way the police can track these scams properly is if we all report them, so don’t ignore it!

Got a message claiming it was from the NHS saying I'd been near someone with the Omicron variant and included a link to buy test kits. It's definitely a scam. I actually work for the NHS and we get lateral flow tests for free as frontline staff, we do two tests a week already and would never get a text like that asking us to order kits.

This number just sent me a message claiming I'd been near someone with the omicron variant and told me to get a test kit from a website ending with nhs. I haven't left the house, so haven't been close to anyone except my family who are all doctors and regularly test themselves anyway. Seems fishy to me, like one of those scams. Also, I thought the test and trace system was no longer running.

There’s a couple of posts explaining what steps you need to take if you’re fed up with these dodgy scammers fleecing poor folks and pestering the rest of us. It’s a bit of a faff but I’ve been reporting scam calls and messages straight to the police database (I’ve even bookmarked the link). The truth is, it’ll take a massive number of people doing the same before anything actually changes. Loads of people report these scams here every day, but change doesn’t come overnight. If nobody bothers doing anything though, these scams will just keep on going.

Has anyone picked up when this number rings? I've got a couple missed calls from it, thinking it might be one of those robocall centres checking if my number’s active. I don’t usually pick up on numbers I don’t know, and they never bother to leave a voicemail. Tried looking it up online but couldn’t find anything useful. Anyone got a clue who might be behind it? Don’t really want to ring back without knowing first.
