The number’s been faked, it’s got nothing to do with the real caller. The person who actually owns the number is a nice woman and has no connection whatsoever to HMRC or any scam going on.

Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC, but it was some robot voice with a strong American accent. The call then switched over to what sounded like a dodgy call centre, and the sound was horrible, which was a massive warning sign for me.
