What's more, it came just after I got a call on my landline from yet another dodgy number, featuring an automated voice also masquerading as the Bank of Scotland. The bank has stated that they never make automated calls and that all their legitimate numbers start with 0345. Clearly, it was just another attempt to con unsuspecting customers.

I got in touch with Lloyds customer service, and they connected me to their fraud department. They told me the number I’d been contacted on was definitely from Lloyds. Naturally, I replied 'no' and then got another message a good four hours later, insisting I ring this number: 03330459569 to verify the situation. They warned that failing to speak to someone could result in my future card transactions facing rejection. I decided against responding, as I found the entire scenario suspicious. After checking my bank statement, I noticed a rather peculiar charge of 23 pence the previous month for some admin fee linked to registering my PCR test at Gatwick Airport! Quite strange, really, but since receiving that text on the 1st of July, nothing untoward has occurred in my account.
