I've received something remarkably similar: "Our files suggest that you could be eligible for £5000 in compensation regarding the incident you experienced. To initiate your claim, simply reply with CLAIM to this message. To opt out, text STOP." I tried calling the number, but it just cuts off and directs me to a voicemail that says, "Welcome to the O2 messaging service." I've gone ahead and reported it to O2.

"Just received a message claiming I might be owed £5,000 - what a laugh! Absolutely no idea how they got hold of my number. These scammers have clearly picked the wrong person! Once I’m back in Australia, I’ll be giving them a ring during the wee hours or just around lunchtime. Guess who’s getting a call from me at some strange hour?! Here’s the number: 07719396574 - feel free to reach out whenever you fancy!"

I've just received something eerily similar: "Our database suggests you could be owed £50 in compensation for your recent mishap. To proceed with your claim, simply respond with CLAIM to this message. Text STOP if you wish to opt out." I attempted to call back, but it just disconnects and diverts me to voicemail, with the message: "Welcome to the O2 messaging service." I've also flagged this with O2.
