I picked up the phone and immediately heard an automated voice claiming to be from BT OpenReach, warning me that my internet would be disconnected within hours due to some unusual activity on my account. The message offered me the chance to talk to a real person, so I pressed the button to connect. The person on the other end basically repeated what the recording had said. Something felt off about the whole thing, but I wasn’t 100% sure, so I asked if they could verify my home address, something my actual provider would have no trouble pulling up. That’s when the call just got cut off.
