I just saw that my phone with BT already stopped calls from this number. With BT voice, they check every call unless the number’s saved in your contacts. If not, they either ask who’s ringing or BT spots if it’s a dodgy scam and blocks it right away.

This seems like one of those dodgy HMRC scams to me. I seriously doubt HMRC would ever ring you up out of the blue or speak with an American accent.
