Received a rather alarming message today, and thought it wise to share it here as a cautionary tale! DO NOT click on it, please!

Just recently, I fell victim to a scam and ended up losing a staggering £1,439 from my Apple Pay account, which has me pondering whether there’s a connection between these two unfortunate events.

HERE’S THE MESSAGE:

Your Apple Pay feature on this device has been suspended following a network update. You can still process contactless transactions via: https://apple-wallet-id52.com

I received a rather dodgy text from this number, purporting to be from Apple. It claimed that my Apple Pay was malfunctioning-which is amusing since I don’t possess any Apple devices nor do I utilise Apple Pay! There was an alarming link provided at the end of the message, instructing me to click it if I wished to restore Apple Pay access. Out of sheer curiosity (and knowing my computer is well protected), I clicked the link. It redirected me to a site that was supposed to resemble an official Apple page, but it was utterly devoid of content aside from the Apple logo. No useful links, no additional pages-just a few empty boxes to fill in. To supposedly get my Apple Pay back, they demanded all my personal information: name, date of birth, address, and even my bank details! Clearly a scam, so I’ve blocked the number.
