Got a text from 07593236735 saying "Hi Mum", looks like one of those scams. The chat seemed pretty real, with the story about needing cash quick cause 'my account’s blocked' and finishes off with 'love you Mum'. They even made it sound like it was coming from a particular person. Normally I wouldn’t be fooled (and we weren’t), but the tale strangely matched up with our actual son.

I got a call from this number saying it was my daughter, and she asked me to message her on WhatsApp. Seemed a bit fishy to me.

Got a message saying "Hi mum" and that they’d switched to BT, giving this as their new WhatsApp number. But since I’m a dad, not a mum, it was pretty clear it was a scam. Honestly, I’d think my family would just email me their new number rather than doing stuff like this that looks dodgy.

Absolutely a scam. Got a message saying "Hello mum, I've switched to O2 now, this is my new number x". Then it asks to chat on WhatsApp at 07402238834. Definitely fishy, don’t trust it!

This was definitely a scam. They sent me a message pretending to be my child saying 'hey mum, I’ve got a new number with O2 now, so please message me on WhatsApp using this one instead'. Total nonsense!

Hey all! Just want to warn everyone about a proper nasty scam going around. Someone pretended to be my kid, messaged me on WhatsApp saying he was in some sort of trouble and asked me for money. Totally dangerous scam, don’t fall for it!

Beware of this “Hi Mum” text trick. I reported it to the police through Action Fraud and also sent details to [email protected]. The odd thing is, the text comes from one phone but asks you to WhatsApp a completely different number..!! The message came from +44 7593 236735 It says: “Hi mum, I’ve moved to Vodafone recently so here’s my new mobile, alright? x” Then it tells you to message on WhatsApp at +447487767486 xx Really suspicious, so best to be careful with these kind of texts!
