I've worked as a financial advisor on my own for more than 30 years, and one key thing you always gotta do before you cold call is to see if the number is on the do not call list. This company isn't even registered with the Financial Conduct Authority. When I pointed out he was breaking the rules, he just kept talking over me, saying I had no right to tell them how to do their business. Needless to say, I told him to buzz off and never ring my phone again. He just hung up after that.

I always avoid sharing my details with callers, same as I wouldn’t share info with someone random knocking on my door. I try to keep them chatting for ages to waste their time, or just end the call. Never say your name or anything, and tell 'em to ring you back on 0300 123 2040 - that’s the FCA’s fraud support number.

They asked me for me by my name, I didn't say who I was and asked who was on the line. He said it was the national debt advisory service, asked if I owed any debts. He said they follow FCA rules, so I asked for their FCA registration number and where they’re located. He gave me a number and said they’re in Manchester. Said it’s just an advisory call.

Just had a rather unpleasant encounter with a chap who claimed to be from Nation Debt Service. He was quite full of himself and got rather defensive when I pressed him for more details about his identity and the purpose of his call. Honestly, it felt like a right waste of my precious time. The caller was a young bloke and had an Asian accent. Quite the unsettling experience, if you ask me!

They called asking if I owed any money. When I said no, they kept pressing me on it. Then they started asking why I didn’t have any debt and kept repeating the same question. I told them they were getting rude and that I wanted to speak to their manager and be taken off their call list. After about half a minute of background noise and him muttering when I asked if anyone was still there, he just hung up. So annoying, like they just couldn’t get what I was saying and it really got on my nerves.

He kept trying to persuade me I owed money but I kept telling him I didn’t need his help and if I was in debt, I’d find a proper company or charity myself, not one that just rings me up. He pushed a bit more and I asked him to tell me what debt they were talking about. He said I should tell him, so I said I don’t have any debt. He laughed and said I was lying, so I just asked why a charity trying to help would call me a liar.
