Got a text from someone claiming to be my mum saying they were messaging from a mate’s phone because they’d broken theirs and that the mate’s battery was low. Wanted me to WhatsApp a new number 07561713750. Smelled a bit fishy, like one of those money scams.

My mum got a call on WhatsApp that looked just like this and she ended up losing thousands! The scammer pretended to be stranded abroad and in some kind of emergency, needing cash urgently. This was even featured on the This Morning programme. Make sure you report anything similar on the official Gov.uk website under the same online address. Stay safe out there!

Watch out, this is definitely dodgy. Got a text saying “Hi mum” and ended up almost getting tricked after a few days of messages. They kept chatting with me for about three days to gain my trust before attempting to swindle me out of £950. I nearly got caught up in it. Reported it to the authorities, but the number’s still ringing through. When I call back, it just goes to an O2 voicemail.

I got a text saying “Hi Mum” and that the phone had run out of battery, asking me to message a new number on WhatsApp. Since I’m not anyone’s mum, it’s obviously a scam.

Looks like a scam to me. I got a text saying something like "Hey Mum, using a mate's phone coz I've broken mine and theirs is nearly dead, can you WhatsApp me on my new number? X" Thing is, I don't have any kids at all. I’m guessing this could really freak out parents who do, and make them reply without thinking.

Got a call claiming to be Hermes saying they tried to deliver a package but couldn’t. Definitely sounded dodgy to me. Didn’t even expect anything, so I ignored it straight away. Probably just one of those scam calls trying to get info.
