Hey OP, since that number’s from the UK, I’m guessing you’re based here too. Just so you know, we don’t have any “road traffic department” in the UK. Sounds to me like it could be a phishing attempt - maybe even from someone familiar, or perhaps they found an old letter from your car insurer lying around with your registration details and phone number. Or they might have grabbed info from your social media profiles. Whatever their intention, it definitely felt dodgy and could be harmful, even if it was just messing about, it’s still a bit of harassment.

I’m a bit confused about this number - why would a government road traffic dept be calling from a mobile? They seemed to have our car registration and even knew our insurance provider. They called me but were asking for my other half. When he tried to get their details - like their name, office location, or who was in charge - all we got was someone telling us to just hang up! Then they ended the call. It’s hard to tell if it’s some kind of harassment yet, but their intentions were definitely unclear. I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number just in case.
