Someone was tryna scam my lad, messaged his phone sayin "hi mum", but his kids are too young to be sending texts like that. The number’s his, so it’s clear they’re up to no good. This is just the classic 'hi mum' trick, trying to freak out some folks who aren’t quite with the programme. It’s been known to make a few parents panic and reply, sometimes losing thousands in the process. If you come across this scam, it’d be a good idea to forward any screenshots to '[email protected]'. Don’t forget you can also file a report with Action Fraud. Just search ‘Action Fraud’ on Google, head to the UK police site, scroll down the phishing report page to the bottom and start your report from there.

Got a text from someone pretending to be my mum, with a different phone number. It was sent to my elderly mum.
